Artist Bio

Cellist, Kirk Starkey is a highly regarded cellist known for his innovative approach to the cello. He has been a member of the Platinum selling classical-crossover ensemble Quartetto Gerlato since 2017 and has been a member of the Director's Guild of Canada since 2022. Starkey's unique sound and style have been praised by various collaborators, including composers and film directors. Recent credits include Anne With An e CBC/Netflix). His performances and recordings have been featured on CBC Radio 2, where he was described as "One of Canada's most inventive Cellists today." Composer, Pieter Ijsselstein began his musical training on the piano at the age 8. Pieter also studied flute for several years during his time in High School. Pieter is primarily interested in baroque and ragtime music. He has written music for a variety of instruments and ensembles. Pieter and his wife Geraldine, an artist, own the Birchtree Gallery in Victoria, Prince Edward Island. They both graduated from Calvin College, Grand Rapids Michigan. “Pieter’s music feels like a time capsule—nostalgic and transportive, yet timeless in its ability to stir something deeply familiar.” Harrison Cohen.
